Renowned for its archaeological ruins "Valle dei Templi".  This valley is considered of utmost   significance:  an historic, cultural, naturalistic and folkloristic patrimony that best testifies the Greek presence  and influence in this region.  Hidden between the  typical almond plantation, are the ruins of the Temples that once stood during the Greek colonization. These temples conserve a inheritance of architectural importance.  During the month of February, the cultural event "Mandorolo in Fiore" takes place and is associated with the international Festival of Folklore.
The city gave its birth place to Empedocle and Luige Pirandello.
