Its historic origins date back to 735 a.C. when a group of colonies disembarked
at Capo Schisò and founded the first Greek colonies in Sicily, known as Naxos.
It achieved a symbolic importance thanks to its altar dedicated to Apollo Archegetes
that became a symbol for ambassadors returning in patria. In the 1800's its territory
developed economic importance thanks to its abundance of fish, wrought iron, manufacturing
of vases and tiles, agriculture, and extraction of essences from citrus plants
for use in distilled beverages.
Today, the Naxos' Gardens are known for its tourism. Its splendid geographic
position is one of the most beautiful and frequented of Sicily.
