Its name derives from a plant; "sambuca". The town surges around "Rocca Pentefur", here  lies the ruins of Castello Sarceno. During the Middle Ages, Savoca was an important city with its castle, town wall, administrative and judicial offices. Today Savoca is reacquiring its prestige investing in tourism.  The film "The Godfather" was filmed here.
